Unfortunatly no dates recorded for these pictures, so they are quite probably mixed up over the years..

Tynwald Day in the 1990s
The Manx National Day, usually celebrated on July 5th unless it falls on a weekend.  It is a public holiday and there is an open air session of the Isle of Man parliament, Tynwald, which is the oldest continuous parliament in the world at well over 1,000 years old.  I attended my first Tynwald Day only a few days after arriving on the island at the start of July 1990 and was amazed as to how relaxed the whole event was, with no high security and I was able to walk around taking pictures more or less as I pleased.  I don't think that these pictures were taken that year, but somebody will probably be able to identify when it was.  The main part of the ceremony follows a church service in St John's church, after which there is a ceremonial procession from the church to the Tynwald Hill. Then all of the laws that have been enacted in the previous year are proclaimed in Manx and English.  It is presided over either by the Lord of Man (H.M. the Queen) or her representative. This can be either a close family member or more normally the Lieutenant Governor of the island.

There's a theme for today's scans of prints from the 1990s - Beaches!

Quite a mixture of locations and subjects for today's offering of 1990s scans from prints, including some early attempts at aerial photography from a light aircraft. The photographer in this case was probably mainly Georgie, as the film camera was a bit bulky so it was not so easy to fly the aircraft at the same time!

Starting off today's pictures from the 1990s with some at the old Injebreck 'Pleasure Resort' that was mentioned in the second picture uploaded yesterday.  I was lucky enough to meet the then owner of Injebreck House and he showed me around what remains and pointed out interesting features.  You used to be able to see the old fountain from the public road, but trees have grown and it's now hidden.  The whole area is private land around Injebreck House.  The 1990s Injebreck pictures were all shot with various grades of 'fog' filters on the camera, giving the rather soft look.

The final set of 'general' print scans from the 1990s (unless I find more!).

Manx Airlines and Jersey European Airways.
A selection of pictures of the aircraft that provided most passenger services to the Isle of Man in the early 1990s.  An interesting observation is that, with the exception of one, all of the aircraft were designed and built in Britain, whereas today there are no civil airliners constructed here, only parts for assembly elsewhere.
There are many more aircraft pictures from the 1990s until the present day in the Island Images Aircraft section.
